Written Proficiency:
Students read to write, and write to be read. They are able to express themselves clearly to various audiences in multiple genres and subject areas through their ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, and conventions. They are also able to evaluate their own writing in order to revise effectively, taking charge of their own writing process.
Fahrenheit 451 Project:
This project helped improve my written proficiency skills. Written proficiency means to be able to express oneself clearly to various audiences through ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, and conventions. In addition, it means to be able to take charge of the writing process. This project helped me improve my written proficiency skill by allowing me to understand how to connect with the audience through writing style. Unlike other writing assignments, the audience wasn’t a teacher, but teenagers, so I had to adapt my writing style in a way that teenagers could relate to and understand it. I also had to work on sentence fluency so my writing wouldn't sound choppy. This was a challenge for me because I was having trouble finding transition sentences, as well as finding a way to link facts together in one paragraph without losing the audience. I learned that having topic sentences that clearly relate to the thesis can almost assure that the audience won't be lost and will understand how you are proving your thesis. Overall, I feel I did a good job and have grown as a writer.
