Agents of Agency: Lana Del Rey
Agency, to us, means to have the ability to collaborate, overcome obstacles and to seek to be better. It is a growth mindset. Lana Del Rey demonstrates and embodies agency for several reasons. When she tried launching her musical career as “Elizabeth Grant” she was criticized for her style of music and her album failed in the United States. Instead of giving up, Lana Del Rey continued to pursue her dreams and tried to become successful in other countries. Eventually, she became successful and has had songs on the Billboard Top 100. We started drawing the portrait of Lana Del Rey on the smart board. We used the sponge brush and had the brush at a low opacity so we could layer the colors. We both worked on the portrait equally. We learned that doing a portrait on the smart board was hard at first, but it was fun when we got used to working on it. What we want people to notice about our work is all the shadows and highlights and how much work we put into the portrait to try to recreate the Lana Del Rey portrait.
Agency Poster
We were asked to create a poster that represents agency and it's meaning. Agency, to us, means to have the ability to collaborate, overcome obstacles and to seek to be better. It is a growth mindset. Our design shows agency by representing the different parts that make-up agency. We made our work out of Legos and photographed them representing agency. We both set up the Legos and we took turns photographing the Legos and chose the best ones. We learned that agency could be shown through images without the need for many words.
Bad Dream
Our video was created using stop motion. We also incorporated a green screen to add a visual effect. In addition, we added music to enhance the action within the movie. Throughout this project we collaborated by each taking part in creating sets as well as taking pictures and moving the characters. After completing this project, we learned new ways to improve short stop-motion films. We learned how to add sound and transitions, as well as background effects. We want people to notice the timing of the sound effects and the effort put into creating the film.
College Fair Poster
Four students were chosen by Mr.Means to create a poster for Mrs. Hanzel. We created two different posters to be used to promote and draw attention for an upcoming college fair. In order to create a successful poster, we needed to consider what would attract high school students but still deliver information successfully. In order to do this, we decided for vibrant colors and large text to draw attention, delivering the information in smaller font underneath.
Selective Desaturation
In the selective desaturation assignment, we were asked to change the background color. This was done in photoshop. I used the magnetic lasso tool to out line the person and then refined the outline. I then made adjustments to turn the background from blue to grey. What I found most difficult was outlining the hair but, luckily, I was able to successfully complete it.
Object Photography
For the object photography project, we were asked to photograph an object in both natural and light box lighting. I took several different pictures and chose two of them to edit. We were then asked to make two edits of the pictures and keep the original. I made subtle changes for the realistic editing style, changing the hue and temperature of the picture. I opted for a more dark and desaturated effect when editing the photos to my liking.
